Do you think anyone will bid on the 2 coupes on Ebay, or are
these cars just things of the past?

Both look pretty good for the price. Problem for me is I
already have three of them. Somebody else ought to try the
coupe if you haven't had one before. They're my favorite of

HOW DO THESE 124 CC COUPES COMPARE TO THE 74-79 RENAULT 17
GORDINI COUPE/CONVERTIBLES? WHICH IS MORE ENJOYABLE TO
OWN/DRIVE?

THANKS.

I used to have a Gordini based on the 17 or 18, I'm not sure
which. In a nutshell, the Gordini was very French, the Fiat
was very Italian.

The Gordini was one of the most comfortable small cars I have
ever driven. Great on the highway. 2600rpm at freeway
speeds. Quiet and smooth. My butt really loved it. It was
FWD and handled pretty good but not like a sports car. Fun to
drive but not fun to drive hard. Lots of body roll and a very
soft, mushy suspension.

The 124 coupe is pretty much the oposite. Not that it's
uncomfortable, but nothing like the Gordini. The Fiat handles
like a real sports car. The only suspension modification I
made to mine was a set of Koni shocks and Pirelli P-77 tires.
The Fiat loved to be thrown around turns, the Gordini hated
it. The Fiat loved to rev up really high and make all those
real sports car sounds, the Gordini prefered to keep it more
subdude. The Fiat was much more reliable and parts were
cheaper and easy to find. Easier to work on too. The Gordini
motorized top was a nightmare to keep the two motors in sync.

If I were on a long road trip, I'd rather be in the Gordini.
For everything else, I'd pick the Fiat. This is not to say
that the 124 coupe is not a good highway car, just that the
Gordini is better on the open road.

Both are great cars, but very different. When I decided to get
rid of the Benz and get something more interesting and fun, I
didn't even consider the Gordini. But that's my personal
preference. Yours may be different.

I inquired about the '70 and it sounds like arust bucket,
therefore no bids. I think the CC was a NPB situation and
relisted, but otherwise looks good. The Coupe was one of the
best Fiats built in my opinion. Same as the spider but without
the body roll. Feels like a different car. Trim parts are
getting very hard to come by for the Coupes, I am totally
unwilling (as I'm sure many others are) to let go of any of my
Coupe parts. I plan on keeping mine and never know which little
insignificant part I may need. I don't think the Renault
compares in any way to the Coupe. If I want to Cruise in a
straight line I'll buy American.

The 72 coupe I have now has stiffer and shorter springs in the
front and it's handling is incredible. It is more fun to drive
than the Scorpion. The point is, with just simple and
relatively cheap modifications, the 124 coupe will absolutely
amaze you with what it can do.

1. I won't be in Ohio for at least a month

2. I never buy sight unseen, I'd need to have somebody
check it out (if anybody wants to, let me know).

3. I'm not eligible for classic car insurance for another four
months, and three cars is a very bad thing in New York.

It's in Akron, Iabout two hours from me and I go there often
anyway, I can retrieve and store it for a while....somewhere, it
may be in the barn yard under a cover, but it is a gravel lot.
For the price, it's not a bad deal, I would go look it over but
I am too busy here to get away for a whiole, I may nmot be able
to go before the auction ends, however, it's the second round
for this car, maybe you can weork out a delay with the owner if
it doesnt' sell this time
I want the one in Michigan.......I like black! ha ha, just

..Since I'm actually planning on being near Akron/Canton
within a month. But he insisted on re-listing it - it's a
classic car dealership.

If you can get there, let me know. You wouldn't have to
store it for me if it ran well - I could just have it delivered
to my friend's house in Akron, then drive it home to New
York. Thanks for the offer. :)

I'm still not firm on it though.

I agree, also - the Black one looks really great. Better, I
think, than the burgundy one. But as I happen to be going
right to the Akron/Canton area...

Err has anyone gone and looked at this car yet? I suppose I
dont mind rust, and I dont mind flying out and fixing it.. but
i'd hate to fly out there and find it in much much worse
condition than the auction says.

Its a bit odd, around here, at that price, someone would have
bought even a pinto with a pre-lit fire just to drive it into
the ground.

I'll be about twenty miles from Canton for a couple days after
Christmas. If family obligations don't prevent it, I'll try to
take a look. I've never had a coupe, so is there anything that I

Mechanically the 124 coupe is virtually the same as the spider,
so you will know what to look for there.

On the body, obviously check for rust. A common problem area is
just below the windshield trim at the front, and in a similar
place at the rear. Even small bubbles in those areas indicate
larger problems beneath, and the glass needs to come out for a
proper repair. Also the back of the rear wheel arches tends to go.

Another thing to check is that all the interior and exterior trim
pieces are present -- these can be very difficult to find. Also
bumpers and glass.
