I am looking for the under dash unit made by
"Custom Air" also known as "Factory Air".. This is the unit
shown in the web site http://www.mirafiori.com/~ac/ .. (scan
down to the installed picture) I need the entire under dash unit
and extra pieces. IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE WORKING but it does
need to be in good condition as not broken up ect. I can refresh
the motor, coil, ext but I need good plastic. If you have one
for sale or trade, email me please. thank

The '79 had one of these units in it but it didn't work, I
figured there was no way to ever get the AC working agian,
afterall they were aftermarket 20+ years ago. So I pulled it
out and had it in the garage for a while, finally decided there
was no future in keeping it around and now it is in the land
fill. Back to Carl's question "when do you throw things out"
and Ed replied "right before someone wants it", well that is
when I throw stuff out too.

Mike,

As some of you know, I have been working on a new system for the
brown and black spiders, I have the engine room equipment done
and am very happy with it, Compresssor, condencer, radiators,
fan all upgraded 134 a specs, but I ran into a big problem under
the dash... ROOM. I had a disscussion with Factory air and the
owner is willing to consider getting back into the fiat
business. Meanwhile, I am sending him my one old unit for him to
refurbish and need another for the other spider. Maybe, just
maybe we will have a supplier for NEW ac units for not only
spiders but coupes ect. As for you Mike, pooey on you, that's
what atttics are for:). Thanks Jef, I will call East coast in
the morning. It was real interesting when the owner of factory
air mentioned he had been looking at the Mirafiori site and he
thought maybe there would be a market in fiats again with the
restoration bunch. night

You know years from now, when we all have *NEW* A/C units in our
Spiders, Xs, Coupes, and (dare I say it?) 850's, we'll give
thanks to the pioneers of the great Fiat air conditioning
movement. Thanks Fred and Allen.

My 850 has a rudimentary A/C system that was optional on all 850
spiders, though all I've seen had it. The way it works is when
it rains, the top leaks at the front corners and soaks your
pantleg or other clothing. With the heat selector moved to cold
and the fan full on, the air evaporates the moisture in the
clothing and results in lower temperatures. ;^) Sucks it only
works in the rain though.
