Well, we're moving tomorrow (the stuff anyway - the wife, kids,
and cars will be moved Wednesday) and I started thinking about
my washer and dryer. There is a valve to shut off the gas to the
dryer, but one assumes that there will still be gas in the line
between there and the dryer itself. What do I do? Shut off the
valve on the line and then fire up the dryer and let it run
until it burns all the gas and the flame goes out? Don't feel
like filling the garage with natural gas...so I thought I'd ask
the all-knowing collective Mira brain.

it's not like there's a ton of gas in that line... Open your
garage door, disconnect the dryer, remove it, and you should be
fine.

I used to sell appliances for Sears. As long as you shut the
valve off, you can simply unscrew the hose and remove. (and if
oyu are intending to leave the dryer, just reinstall after a
minute or two.) I would recommend opening the Garage door to
allevizte the stench, and, of course, not smoking in the
vicinity for awhile.
