Proposed FAQ list
(Eli Caul)

The current itinerary (as originally Proposed by John
Goodfellow, and discussed tonight on Chat) is to isolate the
questions that are asked the most, and write a series of
Articles that can best address them without choking the Forum
with repeated questions.
This is truly a Hot Issue, and an opportunity to get in on the
ground floor if a very important Project for the Server, Page,
et al.
Please get involved, and come see us tomorrow night in the Chat
area, at 19:00 (7pm) Pacific Standard Time.
Looking forward to a productive session, and I hope to see all
interested parties there!

I'd like to get involved, but can't do the Chat thing in
evenings. So I'll at least start out with faq suggestions:
1) 124 Spider steering
2) Engine part swaps
3) Suggested settings for dual 40mm Webers for twin-/single-cam
a) standard cam and compression
b) standard cam and 9:1 compression
c) 40/80 cam and 9:1 compression
d) 40/80 cam and 10:1 compression
4) Differential troubleshooting and swaps
5) Timing up the twincam (& how/when to modify the aux shaft)
6) Spring cutting/swaps for
a) 124 Spider
b) X-1/9
c) 128
7) Diagnosing and curing oil leaks
8) Compression test values
9) FI troublshooting
10) Bodywork care
a) detailing
b) known paint codes

Re: Proposed FAQ list -- 2 Cents
(David Klopfenstein)

Eli,
May I suggest a section devoted to a model by model rust analysis
from those of us -- and there are many -- who've scrapped out a
car beyond repair. Perhaps it could be integrated into a more
complete buyers guide. I know from my own experience how
heartbreaking it is to reach beneath the seats and feel the grass
tickling one's fingers, but that's only half the story, and while
it might not be a car worth saving, many basket cases turn into
fine sources for parts.
How about a realistic guide to parts availability? I think our
pals like Bruce and (lowercase) Dan would be willing to give us
the lowdown. That way folks do save those silly plastic half
moons under the headlights, but don't bother with grotty brake
lines. We are, after all, a cradle to grave group of enthusiasts,
right? (By the way, spread the word, junkyards and scrap metal
collectors get around $50 maximum for a complete two ton plus
'Merican car at the crusher. Much less in the case of 850s and
other micros. It is worth saving what we can.)
Anyway, I'm still in awe of the work you do on this amazing
website. If I can help on the "850 Rot Guide & Tips for
Disassembly with Minimum Bloodshed" lemme know.
Split bumpers forever!

Re: Proposed FAQ list -- 2 Cents

Hi David:
Oscar Robinson just sent some info to "content@mirafiori.com" on
this subject (RUST). I'm sure Oscar would like some help
expanding this with the info you described. Hope you don't mind,
but I like your post enough that I'm stealing it and sending out
on the FAQ listserver. If you haven't gotten on the mailing list,
you should be.
To join the FAQ list: send mail to majordomo@mirafiori.com, and
in the body (not the subject) type 'subscribe faq'.
Thanks!
John Goodfellow
