4-2-1 Header / Gasket
(Andy Togstad)

I just bought a 4-2-1 out of a junk yard for 10 bucks and am
wondering it will fit on my '78. The car I pulled it off of was
a '79 spider that was built in 1/79. The header also has a pipe
coming out the back of it... if there are more than one..
If it will fit which gasket do I get?? One of my fiends is a
parts guy and in his books it says that the gasket in a '79 is
different from all other ones.
Thank You,

I believe what you have is a '79 carbed spider manifold which
therefore had an EGR pipe coming out of it somewhere. All the
exhaust port spacing and stud arrangements are the same so any
manifold will bolt on any 124 head. some of the exhaust
manifolds had the EGR passing through the head rather than
exterior of the motor. This manifold uses a different gasket to
surround the EGR port. The 79 manifold I put on my 78 had this
and I merely cut off that end of the manifold and used a
"normal" gasket. If you had that piece of garbage 4 into 1 stock
manifold before the one you just got you should notice a big
improvement in revability of the motor with no other changes.
