My father drives a 1996 Ford Taurus Wagon (yes... hes is a
Grandaddy!) with a 3.0 L engine. An independent shop adviced him
of replacing the timing belt at 60,000 miles. Upon looking in
his car manuals and maintenance schedule he was not able to find
any reference on replacing timing belt. He is not calling FORD
because of past experience with ignorant FORD delaership
technicians.

If anyone in this FORUM have any link or the information that
may answer his question...

Is this car equiped with a TIMING BELT that needs to be
replaced? or Is this vehicle equpied with a timing chain?

Thank you...

JP!

Alldata lists both a SOHC and DOHC 3.0 liter motor for a 1996
Taurus, but both have timing chains- No T-Belt

Could have been an honest mistake on the part of the shop, as
there are so many motors running around these days- There are
times we actually have to look at the motor to make sure of what
the heck is in there. ( And after looking there still may be
some head scratching :)

The 3.0 is pretty durable compared to the 3.8's which have
notorious problems with timing cover, intake and head gasket
leaks.
