As promised, Update on the 500s
(Jim Thwaite)

A little more data is surfacing on these cars, please forgive any
inaccuracies as I am not very literate on these cars. I still
havent seen them but the soon to be new owner went for a detailed
inspection and here is the report. I belive he said one is a 59
and one is a 60. He also belives they are "Bianchini's" Not
entirely sure what that means but I guess you folks do. They
both have the sliding soft top that goes the whole way back. One
car is complete and very presentable but showing the dirt
collection of 20 years of storage, minor rust in the rockers, no
other rust noted, good top and interior for it's age. Needs a new
axle. The other car is essentially dissasembled, but all there.
It will of course dontate an axle to the first car (anyone know
where to get an axle for one of these, Im still trying to work
out possession of the "parts" car so I can save it) The new
owner has secured the permision of his SO (so long as he paints
HER new fiat 500 the color she wants :) ) and deposits have been
made so it looks like these things will be saved :)
Anyone who can provide some insight into these cars all input is
gladly accepted. Damn, I cant belive Im this excited and they
arent even going to be mine :)

Ok, after a little web surfing what I am inclined to belive is he
meant these were Autobianchis, I still dont know if that is
right, but they are the little notchback coupe with the short top
that ends where the rear quaterglass would be on a standard 500
thus giving them a short top and a little decklid over the trunk.

I want a 500!!!!
Give a call to Obert. He can answer any question you might have
regarding 500's and 500 parts. Bet he can get you an axle, too!

Different Animals
(Oscar Robinson)

FWIW, the Bianchina and the Autobianchi were from different
manufacturers. The Bianchina was a Fiat model name [I think]
like Topolino; Autobiachi is a seperate car company.
There's got to be an identifying name somewhere on the cars!

AFAIK, from the descriptions, these cars sound like they are
Autobianchi Bianchinas. Autobianchi is the make (as in Fiat),
and Bianchina is the model (as in 124 Spider). They were
basically fiat 500s with a different body. Autobianchi was later
assimilated into Lancia. A few years ago in Italy they still
sold a small car called Autobianchi Y10, but in foreign markets
they just called it the Lancia Y10.

(Ulix Goettsch)

Jim,
I am almost certain they are Autobianchi Bianchinas. They are
Fiat 500 based, but have a much more grown up looking body.
The model you describe is the one most common in the US, the
Transmutable, often referred to as the convertible. This is
confusing because in Europe a real full convertible was sold that
is just unbelievably cute. It was my dream car when I was 15...

Here is another photo of a Transmutable:

Based upon his description and a picture he showed me (not of the
cars but one he said looked like them) that must be what these
are. They are cute!
