I called the auction place a few days back and the car didn't sell. The person
who put it up for auction has a 2500 dollar minimum.
I nicely told the lady she should send it back to the owner.
She hung up.
"Pooh".

What lurked beneath what looked like a straight, clean body & decent paint?
These days $2.5K for a clean early (yes, running w/ a good top, etc. etc.)
doesn't seem bad.

Not in a bad way, but when you have cars fall into your lap free or for very
little money it becomes difficult to pay actual market value.
Just giving you a hard time Mike.

You're correct Dean, I have become spoiled. That is a very tasty looking
little morsel of a car and the fact that the auction people don't know much
about it, when they are working with the owner, makes me wonder why they can't
answer questions like, does it run, is there a key, original miles......
Steve Ferrari went to look at it and said they wouldn't let him look at the
motor or in the trunk. What's that all about? Always the skeptic, I take pause
and ponder.
We know it doesn't start or they don't know how to start it, and there is
minor disfigurment on the nose of the hood, small dent in the passenger door,
and a tired interior.
In it's supposed completness it is a 2500 dollar car, but "In my eye" (the
hangman in Blazing Saddles)it's an 800 to 1000 car which is what I offered
them. They replied they already had an offer of 1700 and poop-poohed me.
I don't need or want the car but if I could grab it for 1k I'd do it just on
principal. If ya don't ask...............

I thought it was determined that it hadn't been run or registered in over 10
years. I would equate it to a barn find. Probably in decent shape and
complete, but completely tired out and in need of all rubber replaced. $800
might be a bit low, but $2500 is pretty high for CA.

OK....I glided over the fact it had not been run/used in 10 yrs. So, in need
of certain things before it will likely run (hydraulics, fluids, tires, etc.)
and then another set of things once it's started running a little & getting back
into shape (head gasket, gaskets, brakes, clutch maybe...), I certainly see what
y'all are saying. Even 'round these parts sounds like a grand is top dollar.
