7284 Wed 20th Sep 2000 02:14am 128s now in FSP? (Courtney Waters)
According to the San Fransicso Region SCCA page, 128s (along
with 850s, 131s, and Stradas) have been moved to FSP. Is this
true?

HMMMMMMM....Will this effect us at Ore01 re: the Hillclimb?
There had been talk of us(Fiats) running as a seperate lot to
avoid cramping the local standings, since, well, SOME of us had
pretty smokin' cars...By the way, what can you do to a car in
FSP? What mods are allowed? JP2

Use the link from Courtney and make sure you check on the Street
Touring and Street Mod classes. You'd be a bit under-engined,
but some of the allowed mods make more sense than the Street
Prepared allowances - it's very easy, depending on the smog rules
where you live, to build a Street Prepared car that is not street
legal, and Street Touring addresses that a little better. Also,
many (most, in fact) hillclimb organizations do not use SCCA
preparation rules (the road race or the autocross rules). It's
usually a good idea to think about the type of events you want to
attend, find out which organizations sponsor them and then pick
up the rule books from those specific organizations.

Even if you're under-engined, chances are you'll be faster than
the riceboys who think sliding/drifting around the track and
making lots of tire squeal is racing :)

JP, that was just drunken blather. A "Fiat class" isn't
going to happen, at least not officially. The organizers
were able to put all Fiats into the same SatPM and
SunAM "sessions". Further, they put as many Fiats
as possible into the first "group" of the session for the
conveniece of the Fiat spectators, but also had specific
requests from nearly all competitors to consider. Sessions
and groups have nothing to do with classes at hillclimbs,
they are only related to "when" you run. Sheila did
a fabulous job keeping our runs as close as she did.

On the class thing, five of us entered DSP...kind of adopting
it as a quasi-Fiat class of sorts. None of us were technically
"legal", but hillclimbers aren't the sort to fuss about minor
things. So, we made our own unofficial Fiat class. Obert got
shianghai'ed into FSP when my back was turned, and I thought you
might prefer having HS to yourself. Lil' Mikie's slicks were
abit too much to pawn off into DSP.

Speaking for the Northwest Hillclimb Association (sanctioning
body for the hillclimb at Oregon99, Oregon00, etc), we use a
combination of the above, and a few homebrew classes to
accomodate the wild n' wooly homebrew creations that show up.

First, SCCA autocross Stock and StreetPrepared classes are
offered for vehicles on DOT tires. Second, several of the
more common SCCA roadrace classes are used for vehicles with
racing slicks. Finally, a series of "anything goes" classes
are offered, and are based on displacement and whether or not
the vehicle started life as a transportation device.

I probably should've been in FSP too. Of course, my rear discs
would boot me out :) Those will have to come off if I want to
race the Rally for SP points :(

OK, just wondered...Realllly,I should be in DSP too, rather than
H stock(for all the good THAT did me,Damn Civic ;-) Since I've
got the 1800 head,port-matched manifolds and bigger carb...The
auto-box kinda puts a crimp on things though. I'm gonna have to
learn to left-foot brake to keep the right foot where it
belongs, jammin' the throttle...plus I want to add the extra
lower-control arms in the rear ala Voss mods. BUT,then again,I
may have something else next year....JP2

BZZZT! Buddy, Figget is illegal in DSP, not that there's
anything wrong with that. Since we're all friends, you can
run there and not worry about technicalities. You too Court...no
problem with the rear DB, or with the various technicalities on
all the other Fiats in DSP. We're just there to have FUN, not
quote chapter and verse of an ...... set of rules that were
.... .. ..... ...... ... .... ......... (being PC here)

I know, but I'd like to get my Rally setup up for next years
autocross season. I've yet to have a car setup well enough to
compete for points, but it looks like this will be the car for
next year.
